MICHAEL LEE had the speedway world at his feet. In 1980 he became England's second youngest World Champion at 21 and a year later this brilliant, naturally gifted motorcyclist added the World Long-track title to an endless list of major successes that included back-to-back British Championships.
But his always hectic, `on the edge' lifestyle quickly began to unravel.

He became the first rider to be arrested for possession of illegal drugs and even while he was still at the top of his sport he was regularly snorting cocaine.

A five-year ban from racing (reduced to one year on appeal) only accelerated his path to self-destruction and in this compelling biography Lee admits he became heavily involved in the drugs underworld as a cocaine and cannabis dealer living the high life. Until it all came crashing down.

He was busted by the police and sentenced to three years imprisonment. He came out broke and soon split from the mother of his four children before being declared a bankrupt. Following his release from prison, he returned to drugs and was later re-arrested on lesser charges.

But Michael says he has learned his lessons and is now going straight. Thanks largely to the love and support of a good woman and his own engineering skill in the workshop, he has totally rebuilt his life. Back in big-time speedway as one of the sport's most respected engine tuners on the Grand Prix circuit, he now runs his own successful business from his home in Suffolk.

Back From The Brink tells Michael Lee's astonishing `warts and all' story in graphic detail . . . how he rocketed from child prodigy to World Champion, lost it all and then fought his way back from rock bottom after many had given up on him . . . and he had virtually given up on himself.

As well as Michael's fascinating account of his speedway career and his shocking revelations about drugs and prison, you will read what his closest family members think about him. We also present the controversial views of his former rivals, team-mates, promoters, team managers and some of the people who work most closely with Lee today.

This is much more than a riveting expose about one of the finest speedway riders of his generation. It's a gripping real life story of triumph and disaster that you won't be able to put down.
